Snake as River as Snake is an auto-biographical reflection on the challenges of returning my grandmother’s ashes to Pangasinan. Assembled from footage from my first travels to the Philippines in 2018 and 2019, audio from conversations with my family and personal recorded diaries, this work is an ode to cycles, transformation, and return. I contemplate the natural world in this distant place and what it might mean for us to return – in our bodies, or in spirit – to a place that is both deeply known and unknown.
